Traci Hines Makeup Portfolio Video!

As you may already know, I am pretty active on YouTube. I have two channels, the first is a cover channel for music (www.youtube.com/TraciJHines) and the second, more recent channel I created (www.youtube.com/TraciHines) is for all original content. I post original music, tutorials and now makeup showcase videos and vlogs. This is the first makeup video I've made, and thought I would showcase some of my favorite clients to date for my youtube followers to see. Hope you enjoy it!

*A little note about the last song...I was going through music options to put at the wedding and engagement section of this video, and I while I was listening to original music from other artists to potentially use, I realized that I already had an original piece that had just the right sentiment...and it was one of mine! Haha. I thought the Twilight inspired song I wrote recently was going to be the first original I shared with all of you, (besides my kitty litter jingle in my Tagged! video on my other channel lol), but this one took me by surprise too. This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and I wrote it for my (then) boyfriend for a Valentine's Day gift. I still love this song, although I don't think it's any great example of an original piece of music. Just an honest expression of a girl's love for her boyfriend. It was recorded in a rush on a mac laptop in a college dorm room, and there is so much I'd like to improve, but it is what it is. I hope to re-record this sometime soon. It's years old. Thanks so much to Brandon Gill who is the very talented pianist playing the song. He arranged the song, played it for me and recorded me. I know this is only a portion of the song too-both songs actually. I plan to upload a video for BJ's Song with the entire thing very soon. Stay tuned for that!

Well I hope you enjoy the video, and I promise I've got more videos on the way! Hoping to make some more tutorials soon too!

Artistic Retro Shoot

Lindsay is such a beautiful girl. She has one of my favorite "looks" to work with: features like a cartoon character! And I mean that in the best way possible. When I look at her I see a Disney Princess! (Who wouldn't want to be compared to the most beautiful, flawless works of art that Disney creates?) I wanted to do something unique and not just go the obvious route of making her up to be a "pretty princess." I was hoping to create something a little edgier.

I was inspired by Lindsay's amazing large, doll-like features. She said I could go as extreme as I wanted with the makeup, so after applying basic foundation and powder, I contoured her face with shadows, used frosty blues and pinks on her eyelids, and gave her dramatic lashes on top and bottom to frame her gorgeous eyes. I applied tiny rhinestones under her eyes to resemble tears. We decided on a natural toned lip color and her makeup look was done.

I also styled Lindsay's hair. I like how you can't really tell if it's her hair or a fashionable hat from Paris or something! Haha. I teased, pinned and coaxed it into curls and shapes, weaved ribbons, lace, chains and a crystal-beaded necklace into the style, then added a large black fabric rose. I will admit, I actually had more fun styling her hair than doing her makeup! I think I'm beginning to like hairstyling even more than applying makeup, although they will both always be passions of mine.

A huge thanks to Lindsay for her patience as I created her look and for being such a great sport during the shoot! It was freezing outside but she stayed until we got the very last shot.
I hope she is as happy with the result as I am!

Treichelt-Phillips Wedding

On September 22nd 2007 I was lucky enough to get to help this beautiful bride get ready for the most exciting day of her life! The Bride is Angi Treichelt (now Angi Phillips). You might recognize her from my banner and Portfolio. She is one of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen...although all brides are beautiful. All MY bridal clients especially! (I know, I'm biased, haha).

Angi has naturally curly hair, (and yes, that is all her own hair-no extensions here!), and while she likes her hair both naturally curly and straightened, she wanted larger, looser curls for her big day. Angi straightened her hair the night before and I went to work with the curling irons the morning of the wedding, switching off between a medium and a large barrel iron. I like that she still wanted her hair to look natural. I teased the roots for volume in the back and pinned the small section of hair above the veil.

Keeping with the natural look, Angi requested extremely light makeup. She doesn't need much to go from beautiful to knockout! She wore very light powder/foundation, natural toned eye shadows, a thin swipe of liquid liner and black mascara. I added short, black individual lashes to the outer corners of her eyelashes and brushed a small amount of M.A.C.'s Peaches blush to the apples of her cheeks. With a tiny bit of nude lipliner and clear gloss she was ready to go!

Below is a photo of Angi and her adorable cousin Heather (who was one of her bridesmaids). I did Heather's makeup that day too.















Behind the scenes...It was a beautiful September day, even though the weather wasn't exactly ideal for an outdoor afternoon wedding! It showered off an on throughout the morning, and misted the girls during the pre-ceremony photos. Good thing I was there keeping the curling irons hot to put some life back into Angi's relaxing curls!





(And just in case you were wondering, the ceremony went off without a hitch and without real drops of rain...until the moment Angi and Matt shared their first kiss as husband and wife. Then the skies opened up and misted gentle rain, enhancing the moment and signaling the guests to head inside for the cocktail hour and reception!)



I got to join in the fun too! (-:

This was one of the latest shoots I got to work for Cam of Cam Oden Photography, (formerly Odenphotography). He is one WONDERFUL photographer! He never ceases to amaze me with his ability to capture the perfect lighting and really bring out his subjects' best features. I absolutely love Lauren's urban yet exotic look, and thought that flaming red lipstick (my staple, M.A.C.'s Russian Red) would be perfect for her. Erin's eyes are such a gorgeous shade of blue they are UNREAL, so I applied concentrated charcoal eyeshadow all over the lid to draw even more attention to them. The finishing touches for Erin were heavy false lashes and a glossy, neutral lip. Lauren got fringier lashes to go with her edgier look and we kept her lipcolor matte. To my amazement, Lauren was the artist behind both models' hairstyles. Girl's got beauty and talent! (-;

...wish I could rock a "fro"hawk!

This is Angi

Peacock feathers have always inspired me...lucky for me Angi loves them too, and let me use them to turn her into an exotic bird one afternoon for this shoot! She has feathers trailing down one side of her face, and I actually used some feathers in place of false lashes on the other side to create an assymetrical effect. After the makeup application, I went on location with the model and photographer to watch the magic happen-I loved seeing Angi's dramatic poses and movements-she really got into character!

This is Jennie

I have to admit, while I think every ethicity is beautiful and fun to "make up," I really think Asian features are one of my favorites. You can blame it on my obsession with Japanese culture, anime and conventions if you like! Jennie is Thai, and I think she is such a doll, so my goal with this look was to fool you into thinking she literally was one! A perfect porcelain doll...and I am quite happy with the result! I outiftted our model with the blonde bob wig, and fashioned the netting veil she is wearing out of some stiff, black tulle. My favorite aspect of her makeup is the bright pink blush applied very high on her cheeks. I was inspired by various geisha artwork and pictures, and some photos of those crazy kids hanging out at Harajuku Square in Japan...a place I really hope to visit someday!

This is Claire

I was going for a really extreme look for this shoot....really intense eyes and lips, and I think Claire looks truly striking! I love how eyes take on a different life when you frame them in black or gray. Claire's hazel eyes seemed to morph to an intense green and gold after the makeup application. Not only do I love creating really unique looks like this for photoshoots, but I love when the model embodies it well in the photos, too. Claire's angsty expressions are perfect! Even though she is the friendliest most outgoing girl off camera!

This is Laura

I think this is a very fairy-esque look, which is interesting since it was photographed at night. My favorite touches are the antique looking flowers framing her face, and the false lashes attached to her lower lash line. Come to find out, Laura's favorite color is purple! Good thing, because she was covered in it! I love her natural look-she has an almost vintage appeal to her, at least in my opnion. She was a great model.
